Spilled bear on my laptop the other night — on the righthand side of the keyboard. Everything continued to function, but now a dozen or so keys are very sticky, maybe 3 or 4 of them to the point where it breaks my stride when typing.
Beer strikes me as a Very Bad Thing to spill on a laptop. But I really don’t know how bad. Does anyone know: are things going to get worse if they haven’t gotten worse already? Is there anything I can do at this point other than hold my breath and hope it all gets better magically? Can anyone suggest creative ways I could spin this to Dell support so that it falls under the warranty?

You may be able to fix it by removing the keyboard from the laptop (your laptop supplier’s website should have instructions on this) and running it through the dishwasher. Really!
Several commenters on Boing Boing claimed success with this.
The alternative is probably continued deterioration of the keyboard as bacteria and mold colonize it. Yecchh!

I actually spilled beer on my Apple keyboard at work a few years ago (it was a laid back office). I wiped down the keys that were sticky to touch, but a few days later, the keyboard was fine — like nothing ever happened. Not a laptop keyboard, I know, but you might give it some time to dry out.

Rinsing the beer off by spilling vodka on it usually does the trick for me.

you could probably hook a ps2 or usb keyboard to it
