Overheard conversation next to me at the Laptop Bar at “It’s a Grind”:http://www.polytropos.org/archives/000233.html. Guy 1 is the guy who was plugging in his network cord even though he had a wireless card, and needed to call someone on his cell phone to figure it out why his access was screwy.
Guy 1: “Hey there. This is my first time logging on in three weeks. I’ve got _forty-five_ emails!”
Guy 2: “Wow, that’s a lot.”
Guy 1: “Yeah, but most of ‘em are probably porn. In case you want to look at any.”
Guy 2: “No, no porn for me.”
Guy 1: “Me either. I gave up porn for Christianity.”
At first I assumed he was joking, but now they’re talking about their churches and Guy 1′s praise band.
UPDATE: I wish I had been listening more closely, because Guy 1 just used the word “hyper-Calvinism,” followed quickly by “liturgy” though he pronounced it “li-TUR-gy.” Only in West Michigan.

They’re still there, still talking. They seem to be talking about evangelical outreach DVDs aimed at teens right now.
Or maybe they’re still talking about the porn; I just know I heard “teens” and “interactive DVDs”…
No, they just threw in the word “scripture.” Whew.

Dude, those chumps are the bandwidth hogs! They keep going to sites with some kind of video (I see Media Player open on their desktop) and the whole coffee shop drags down. I almost just went home because of it, then they toned it down.

Aside from a problem that developed with my encrypted telnetting software, a big reason I’ve not been enthusiastic about trying to fix it, and go back to my old e-mail address, is that I was receving between 600-800 spams a day when I last looked.
Gosh, yes, 45 e-mails in three weeks sure is a lot.

Yeah, in a way that’s what’s funniest about their whole conversation…

That’s funny how a conversation about li-TUR-gy and hyper-Calvinism, about as far from my atheistical worldview as you can get, doesn’t seem as weird as the fact that they are only getting about 2 e-mail messages a day. That’s the most bizarre, alien thing about it.
